Brief Description:

The Public Interest Technology Network, (PIT-UN), announces the 5th year of their Network Challenge. Harvard, as a single institution, may submit up to three new proposals for consideration.
Prior Network Challenge awardees who wish to expand and/or scale up their previously awarded work should consult PIT-UN's eligibility matrix and contact vpr@harvard.edu prior to starting an application. 

The office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating an internal process for those interested in submitting a new proposal.

Two Priority Areas:
For Cycle #5, PIT-UN seeks proposals related to one of the following:
  • Educational Offerings
  • Career Pipeline/Placement
Funding Tranches are as follows:
(Indirect costs are capped at 20%)
  • Tranche 1: Up to $90,000, inclusive of direct and indirect costs
  • *Tranche 2: Up to $180,000 ($90,001-$180,000), inclusive of direct and indirect costs
*For 3 proposals to be submitted, only one proposal can fall in Tranche # 2.

Applicants will be asked to submit the following (this information, including full descriptions when applicants must make a selection), will appear again on each applicant's electronic dashboard)

  • Proposal Title
  • Proposal Priority Area Selection
  • Proposal projected start and end dates
  • Primary Issue Area Identification
  • Secondary Issue Area Identification
  • Proposal Elevator Pitch. Describe your proposal in a sentence. (25 words, max.)
  • Project Plan.750 words, max.
    Describe your proposed project, including:
-Objectives
-Method and process to meet those objectives
-How would you spend the awarded funds?
-What deliverables would you produce during the project? Are there other measurable outcomes?

Budget
  • Total amount requested, inclusive of a 20% indirect rate
  • Funding tranche selection
  • Brief budget narrative (a detailed budget is not requested at this time)
  • Acknowledgement of Sponsor's statement on Institutional Support. Provide the full name of a local administrator who the PI will, or has, contacted to discuss the financial aspects of the PIT-UN Year 5 Challenge.
  • Those nominees selected for submission to the sponsor will be required to submit a signed letter of support from an appropriate signatory (a divisional or academic dean) in advance of submission of the application to the sponsor.

This competition is enabled for Proxy applicants. Before beginning an application, Proxies will be asked to locate their Principal Investigator in HUFP. If your PI is not registered in HUFP, please ask them to create their profile using their HarvardKey. Proxies should never “add user” in HUFP.
